My Story

My Masturbation Story & Pathway to Freedom

When I started masturbating at the age of 16, I did not realize the habit was going to be a long and torturing experience. I gladly indulged the flesh until I met the Lord Jesus at age 22. But, immediately I became born again, a new awareness came upon me and before long, I knew inwardly that masturbation was wrong. It was then the battle began.

In my attempts to overcome masturbation and other besetting sins, I tried every known and common spiritual exercise (fasting, suppression, Bible reading, etc) but without success. All the while fellow believers held me in high esteem, unknown to them that I was a defeated brother in the closet.

Each time I fell I would ask God for forgiveness and then instantly got refreshed by the Holy Spirit. The vicious cycle of rising and falling lasted many years until one day: I gave up trying to overcome my secret sins. I asked God to judge me and stop forgiving me. What’s the point of asking for forgiveness when I would crawl back to the same habit in less than 48 hours? I reached the conclusion that it was impossible to overcome masturbation, but I was wrong.

The Lord graciously led me to the most eye-opening but generally unknown truth about sin. Sin is more than a choice; it is a force acting on humans, though unknown to us. “He that commit sins is a slave of sin.” Slaves don’t have much choice but to please their master. This is the sort of relationship between man and sin until sinners believe in Christ.

I discovered a lot of truths about sin, man, Christ, and God’s provisions for total freedom and victory over any compulsive habit. The truths are in the Bible but hidden like treasures to be sought earnestly. Little wonder the Lord Jesus said to the Jews who believed in Him, “..if you continue in my words you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” Holy Spirit led me to two profound truths that eventually led to my freedom. The truths are overlooked and unknown to a lot of believers. The effect is that many believers are trying to overcome their weakness the wrong way.

The result is amazing. I got delivered and started enjoying uninterrupted fellowship with God. My prayer life took a new turn. The voice of God through the Holy Spirit becomes very clear in my heart. I began to understand the Bible beyond my finite mind.

Then, the turning point in my spiritual life came the day I laid hands on my son, sick of fever in the middle of the night – No emergency service to call in a remote location far away from western civilization. I paced the room, not knowing what to do. Suddenly, a thought flooded my heart to pray and ask for healing.

I was skeptical at first because I had never asked or prayed for divine healing. I must admit that prior to that night when my son suddenly took ill at 1.30 AM I had never witnessed anyone healed of any sickness by laying of hands. So, as I paced the room while my son groaned in pain, unable to sleep, I decided to take the Lord by His words. …they shall lay hands on the sick, and the sick shall be healed. I moved closer to my son, laid both hands on Him and, in desperation, I said: I heal you in the name of Jesus Christ.

I must confess that the religious part of me quickly came to the surface because of what I said, but something else happened: God honored my prayer that night. My son was healed of a fever. Three days later my daughter took ill of the same fever, but this time it happened in the day time.

My wife suggested we seek medical attention, but I insisted we pray for healing. I wanted to make sure the first experience was not a coincidence; so I laid hands on my daughter and said, Be healed in the name of Jesus, and right on the spot her countenance changed. She, too, was healed. It was then it dawned on me that purity is the bridge between faith in God and manifestations of His power. Ever since then my family has been enjoying divine healing through prayer.
