Scriptural Guide to Divine Healing Part 2 (Christ the Anointed One)

In the first part of this series, twelve basic truths about divine healing and four basic fundamental principles governing divine healing were highlighted. In this note, however, the focus is Christ, the Anointed One.

In a God-Man relationship, there are two aspects to spiritual life, namely: 1. Personal Enjoyment of God exemplified by “…but I have come, that they may have life…” 2. Believers’ Service to God illustrated by “…and have it more abundantly.” John 10:10.

There are other Bible verses where these two aspects of believers’ relationship to God are spoken of.

For example, the Lord Jesus said in John 15:1, “I am the vine, ye are the branches…” (Personal Enjoyment of Christ by Spiritual Union), “…and my father is the husbandman…” This verse illustrates our relationship to Christ for personal enjoyment.

But then, the Lord Jesus states further the purpose of our union with Him: which is to bear fruits (Spiritual Service) and went on to say that the Father will prune us to bear more fruits.

It is within the purview of personal enjoyment of God that divine healing is possible and is the basis for this article.

It is in light of the above-stated facts that this part of the series is titled “Christ the Anointed One.”

The word anointing, referring to approval and empowerment for spiritual service otherwise known as Ministry, is often used in Christendom. However, the theological term known as ‘anointing’ is one of the most misunderstood and misapplied spiritual terminologies by believers.

There are two dimensions to this terminology (Approval and Empowerment) and different levels of anointing in relation to spiritual service. But the overriding truth about the terminology is that the Lord Jesus Christ [is] the Anointed One of God and, by extension, everyone in union with Christ is equally anointed; not as separate individuals, but as beneficiaries of the anointing upon the Lord Jesus Christ. Psalm 133:1-3.

It is in light of this truth that divine healing for personal enjoyment is the heritage of every believer in Christ. Since Christ is the Anointed One, approved of the Father to save the world, there is no need for any special anointing before believers can activate divine power for healing. The only requirement for divine healing is knowledge and appropriation of the accomplished work of Christ.

In the first part of this series, it is mentioned that sicknesses and diseases can be caused by several reasons, so knowledge of Christ as the Anointed One and different ways to activate divine healing for different types of sicknesses and diseases is important.

Technically, it is not difficult to see that since Christ is the Anointed One and we (believers) are His body on earth, we are joined to Him spiritually and, as such, the scripture that “And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace” (John 1:16) applies. Another Scripture says, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being;” (Acts 17:28) so we are grafted to enjoy naturally the flow of power in Christ as the Anointed One of God, but this is not the case with many of us who profess faith in Christ. Why?

There are two major reasons why believers do not enjoy the power of God through the anointing upon the Lord Jesus Christ. The first is a lack of knowledge; the other is a careless union with Christ.

A lack of knowledge of certain truths about the Christian faith is perhaps the reason why other factors responsible for deaths (untimely) and unavoidable sufferings are the lot of many believers.

In another article on this blog titled “Conditions Necessary for Faith,” knowledge is mentioned as the first condition necessary for faith. In Scriptures, too, God tells us specifically that knowledge is key to divine strength, exploits, and longevity.

For example, in Isaiah 5:13, the Scripture says “Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.” and in Daniel 11:32b, the Scripture says “but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”

The Lord Jesus too, mentions knowledge as a condition to enter into His rest. He says this in Matthew 11:29, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

The Error of Knowledge (Objective Blessings)

From the foregoing, certain truths bordering on a lack of knowledge have been stated but not established. This portion of the series is therefore intended to shed more light on the aspect of believers’ privileged position before God and on earth.

In Ephesians 1:3, Paul writes, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

The spiritual blessings mentioned in Ephesians 1:3 refer to what we may call objective blessings. The word objective in this connection implies “plug and play” – that is, settled and sealed.

Objective spiritual blessings are blessings from God to Man through Christ Jesus. They have no regard for status or position on earth. They are common denominators to all who believe in Christ Jesus.

What are Objective Blessings?

There are five objective blessings received by anyone who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. These are 1. The Name of Jesus Christ; (2) The Blood Shed of Christ; (3) The Cross of Jesus; (4) The Flesh of Jesus and the Blood Drink; (5) The Stripes of Jesus.

Each of the above-listed objective blessings is the means by which believers are required to activate divine power for their enjoyment of God. Unfortunately, very few believers are thoroughly informed about the effect and appropriation of these objective blessings.

I am very sure that you are familiar with the objective spiritual blessings mentioned above, but the truth still remains that a lot of believers have not been taught in a formal way the-what-and-the-how of all the spiritual blessings. Thus the effect is that many believers are either not appropriating the blessings for their enjoyment of God or, in cases where the believer is aware of the blessings, he or she is not informed well enough on how to appropriate them for divine power.

The five objective blessings rank topmost in the order of power generating systems for believers. Every other spiritual activity such as Bible Reading, Fasting, Praises, Soul Winning, Intercessory Prayers, Meditation, etc is secondary to the objective blessings.

To round off this part of the series, it is essential to state that objective spiritual blessings are effective against diverse sicknesses and diseases ON ONE CONDITION – The believer must be properly joined to Christ.

I will shed more light on proper union with Christ in Part 3 of this series.
